Notice of Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing of Personal Information

Notice of Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing of Personal Information

Some jurisdictions provide their residents the right to direct a business that sells or shares personal information about them to not sell or share their personal information. This is referred to as the “right to opt-out” of sale or sharing.

What is a “sale” of personal information?

The definition of “sale” varies by jurisdictions but generally means to disclose or make available personal information to a third party for valuable consideration, including money. Many disclosures of personal information are not sales. For example, if we disclose or make available personal information to service providers or other contractors who provide business services for us this is not a sale. Likewise, we do not sell your personal information if you direct us to intentionally disclose personal information to or intentionally interact with one or more third parties. Also, transfers of personal information as an asset as part of a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy or other transfer of business control is not a sale.

While we do not sell your personal information for money, we do make available personal information to third parties for advertising and marketing purposes. We do so to make sure you see relevant ads and to promote our company on third-party properties. Under some jurisdictions, like California, this is sometimes considered a “sale.”

What is “sharing” of personal information?

“Sharing” means sharing, disclosing, making available or otherwise communicating orally, in writing a consumer’s personal information for cross‐context behavioral advertising, also commonly referred to as targeted advertising.

What Does Opting Out of Sale/Sharing Do?

If you opt out of the sale/sharing of personal information, we will stop selling and/or sharing your personal information with third parties as soon as feasibly possible and otherwise comply with our legal requirements under the jurisdiction to which your personal information is subject.
